| Laurie Atkinson is currently Director, Communications for Direct Energy, with pan North American responsibility. Contributing to internal dialogue for an organization with impressive growth trajectory (#43 on the FP 500) and leadership positions on globally-dominant issues was a compelling reason for Laurie to join this total energy solutions provider in 2007.
Prior to joining Direct Energy, from 2004 to 2007, Laurie was Senior Director of Communications & Retail Graphics for Pet Valu Inc., Canada's retail success story. Her portfolio spanned marketing communications, corporate communications, product/packaging development and retail promotions for 350 store locations across Canada and the United States, in the fast-growing pet sector.
From 1998 to 2004, Laurie was with Allstate Insurance Company of Canada. She served as Allstate's Manager of Advertising & Brand Communications and Manager of Corporate Communications, with responsibility for advertising, mar-comm, public relations, media relations and employee communications for this multi-channel, multi-brand financial services corporation.
Previous to Allstate, Laurie managed communications at Queen's Park, where she was engaged in media, stakeholder and community relations and issues management for a Member of Provincial Parliament.
Laurie has served on the Board of Directors for CPRS (Toronto) from 2000 to 2004, on IABC (Toronto) Programs Committee, and on IBC ICAN Committee. She's currently volunteering on a public school board communications committee.
She holds a B.A. in Political Science & English from the University of Western Ontario, a Certificate in Public Relations from Ryerson Polytechnic University, and a Marketing Management Certificate from York University's Schulich School of Business.
