| Lydia is a senior communications/public affairs professional with more than 20 years of management experience with trade associations, small business enterprises, and national and multinational corporations.
Her responsibilities at the CLHIA include government relations, focussed on developing Parliamentary submissions and testimonial materials for senior member company officers; executive speech writing, dealing with the CEOs and Boards of Directors of the 80-plus Association members; participation in the establishment of the Association’s Internet presence through an evolving Web site with an extensive Member Services component; contribution to the design and implementation of communications strategies aimed at the membership and a diverse range of external constituencies such as consumers, federal and provincial legislative and regulatory bodies, and various business groups.
Prior to joining the CLHIA in the mid-1980s, Lydia worked for a private holding conglomerate encompassing shipping, finance and property management subsidiaries, with an emphasis on community relations and event management that required work in the United Kingdom. She also worked for Celanese Canada Corp. based in Montreal, with a focus on investor and media relations and crisis management; and Bell Canada and its directory publishing subsidiary Tele-Direct, looking after employee and retiree communications.
A native Montrealer and fully trilingual (English, French, Ukrainian), Lydia holds a Bachelor of Journalism (First Class Honours) from Carleton University and a Certificate in Business Communications from McGill University.
Lydia is a Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) of the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) and has served that international life and health insurance education and research body as a Director of its Toronto Chapter Board. She has earned several distinctions, including an Award of Excellence (publications) from CPRS at the national level and Awards of Excellence (print communication and communications planning) from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). She has been active with IABC in different capacities, including Board Director of the Montreal Chapter and judge for the Toronto Chapter Ovation Awards program. She has served CPRS as a student mentor over the past 10 years and is an Accreditation examination grader.
